Curbing the Violence in Baltimore City

The city of Baltimore is notorious for it's crime and violence. When you turn on the local news each evening, you're almost certain to hear about someone being attacked, injured or even murdered on the streets of Baltimore City. During the summer months violence tends to increase as the days seem to grow longer, students begin their summer vacations and more and more people occupy the streets and local businesses. In an effort to help reduce the amount of violence and crime in the city, many police officers work hard to patrol neighborhoods, work with members of the community and catch suspected criminals. Despite their efforts, law enforcement continues to struggle to decrease the amount of violence that takes place in our city. Respond to the following:

What do you think can be done to curb the violence in Baltimore City?

  2. I feel as though nothing can really be done because the violence is so prominent in Baltimore. It's like taking one step foward and two steps back.

  3. i feel that nothing can be done. I say this because many different ways have been tried and they didn't work. Those ways didn't work but there might be another way.

  4. I don,t think much can be done because we have tried anything and everything but the crime still grows. Personally i think everyone in Baltimore should stay to themselves and also be them selves!

  6. I think parents need to take resposibility and teach there children to the right thing.

  7. I think that more officers should be on duty and that they should be more active and alert at all times. Also that during the summer more children should be doing some productive things or in camps trying to learn more!

  8. I think they should have Community Centers so anyone in the nieghborhood can come . Maybe this will help some people stay off the street and not falling into gangs .

  9. I think cameras should be on every block and there should be atleast 1 police car with atleast 2 policemen and or woman in the car to watch over the streets on almost every street. This can be an experiment to see if the crime would increase or decrease. Parents should also take charge to watch their kids because when something happen to their kids thats when relaity steps in so yeah parents need to take charge too

  10. I think that there should be programs for all kids and adults. If there are interesting programs around then people wont be always in the streets , instead people will be doing something productive with their life and not killing people or getting hurt.

  11. I think There Should Be More People Watchin Children In The Streets So There Will Be Less People Tryingg To Start Violence In the Streets

  12. I really don't think we can really do much anymore because we have already tried to stop violence in Baltimore and it seems like the criminals don't care as long as they get what they want. They know the consequences they will face when they do stuff like this but still do it so we don't really have any more options.

  13. I Dont think nothing going to happen because they try to do it every year and i dont see no change. whats the point of doing it and no ones listening .

  14. nothing can be done to stop crime in baltiomore. baltimore is just a magnet to crime. some people do the things they do for a specific reason. to stop you have to start at the source. and since noone is taking the time to talk to people instead of arresting them w/o questioning we have a higher crime rate !

  15. I think that nothing can be done because no matter what you do people will find ways to work around the law..

  16. Children need to find other things to do and not be out on the streets. Nothing more can be done because the kids no what they need to do they choose not to. If they have a problem they need to askfor help to try to solve it and not result in violence.

  17. i think nothing can be done to stop crime in baltimore.i guess its just a bad place....

  18. I think in real terms that its not done because there is always going to be someone out there that is going to do a certain crime but what i think should be done is harsher punishments for people who do those certain crimes so that way when they do something bad then they would fear the consequences............thats just my opinion

  19. i Feel As Though Nothing Can Be Really "Done" To Stop The Violnce in Baltimore. If We As A Community Really Wanted To Stop The Violence in Baltimore City , Then We Actually Have To Put Forth The Effort To Actually Find The Problem, & Then A Logical Solution To This "Problem". We Have Done Things Such As Putting Cameras Around The City, But As We All Can See This Does Nothing To Solve The Problem Of Violence in Our City. The People Themselves Have To Be Willing To Make The First Step Themselves To Look At Themselves & Those Around Them & Stop This "Problem".

  20. I don't think anything specific can be done, you can't control people or their actions and most of the time the criminals aren't caught. So no the violence can't be curbed or changed.

  21. I feel as though alot can't be done, just b/c people in Baltimore choose to do what they want!
    You can't control anybody,but what's going isn't RIGHT... at all !

  22. I feel like they should continue to have police patrol the neighborhoods and make sure young people aren't out on the streets late at night and that they are careful when roaming the streets. And just have a lot of security and witnesses around so things can be stopped before it actually happened.

  23. i think we can stop the violence by first improving ourselves and making sure we are doing the right thing then, making sure our peers and our families are doing right. soon after, everyone will follow, because thats what the world is, people who follow and people who lead.

  24. Perhaps if people taught their children from the beginning that violence isn't the answer, we'd have less kids aspiring to be in gangs when they grow up. It's a sad day when people actually think that hurting innocent people is cool when really, IT'S NOT. I think programs like DARE & GREAT help people get aware of the issue and they should try to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse.

  25. I think that there needs to be more police on the look out for criminals and more police on the streets of baltimore also there needs to be more cameras to.other than that there is not really anything that can be done to stop criminals because they still are going to do waht they want ot do regardless annd another thing is when the criminas are caught they should automatically be put in jail .

  26. What the city can do is put up more cameras in neighborhoods so they can catch who is doing the crime. Also neighborhoods can have a neighborhood watch group to supervise their community.

  27. I believe that change can happen. It won't be instantaneous. People have to believe that change can happen. It's not something an individual person or group of people can change. It has to be all of Baltimore coming together to help make change.
