The Baltimore City Council recently passed what is called a "bottle tax". As a result, there will be a 2 cent tax on all bottled beverages in the city of Baltimore. The bottle tax, which was initially set to be 4 cent per bottle, is expected to save Baltimore City approximately $5 million dollars over the course of the next three years. Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake supports the bill and says that it will also save up to 50 jobs and help fund programs such as graffiti removal and trash clean up around the city. Many city business owners are against the bill because they believe customers will start going to the county to buy their bottled beverages. If this were to happen, some businesses say that they will lose up to 10 percent of their sales. Respond to the following:
What do you think about the bottle tax? Will it stop you and your family from buying bottled beverages in the city?
I think the bottle taz is a bad idea because major companys like pepsi might move to another location. Also Businesses will lose money because people might cut back on them because of the tax.
ReplyDeleteThe bottle tax desnt really affect me because its two cent. Like anyone can make two cent....i could probaly find two cent. Im just going to keep buyin soda as if there ws no tax!!!
ReplyDeletei thnk the bottle tax isn't needed. the tax won't stop my family from buying bottled beverages in the city but it will help save space and we wont buy something to drink when it isn't needed. the tax might save jobs but people getting fired is apart of life.
ReplyDeleteI think that bottle tax isn't that big of a deal because who buys that many bottles of soda at once. You probably find two cents somewhere everyday. I also doubt that people will go to the county just to buy some soda because gas is still high. If you think it is a problem get cans of soda and drink tap water.
ReplyDeletei think that bottle taxes in not needed because they already have to pay .06 cents per dallor so who wants to add an extra .02 cents on to that. i will still uy bottle sodas because i love sodas and/ or refreshing drinks but paying an extra .02 cents is a very, very (excues my language) DUMB idea like what can you get in pay an extra .02 cents except being .02 cents broker.
ReplyDeleteTruthfuly I dont think it matters. I fell this way because most people aren't going to go threw all the trouble of going out to the county to just buy a soda so there probly going to complain a bit but still buy it. I MEAN COME ON ITS ONLY TWO CENT! GET OVER IT !!
ReplyDeleteI Think Its Not A Good Idea But It Shuldnt Matter Cuzz Its Only two Cents. Like Two Pennies Thats It So iTs Not A Big Deal. I Can See if it Was A DOllar Worth Of Tax or Something Like That But Its Only Two Cents. We Still Shuldnt hAv Bottle Tax Though. So Rite Now , Its Not A Big Deal But Later On It May be
ReplyDeleteFirst I would like to say I personally don't like the new mayor but she does have a point a lot of parents and even students are losing jobs. If more people lose jobs they may not even have jobs and companies may have to shut down completely. I feel as though the tax is ok for right now. Tax really isn't a big deal to me because its saving jobs.
ReplyDeleteI think that putting tax on bottle is dumb although it doesnt affect me. Its dumb to me because many people maybe cant afford it & if they cant affford it chances are they may not buy it so really they are loosing many but it wont stop me because I can afford it and plus I like soda !
ReplyDeleteI think it is ridiculous to have a tax on soda i mean come on now its commen sense to save money and go to the county to get a soda there should be a tax on something bigger than soda...wow soda people would start going to the county to get soda but 2 cents is not really a big deal i mean i can pay extra but there are some people who cant afford to pay it it can stop some people from buying it we can always drink water w/ the powder drink mix things
ReplyDeleteWell It Really Doesn't Matter To Me Because Its Only 2 Cents Thats Not Alot. Well To Me They Can Add The Tax But If They Overboard Then It Will MATTER. I Wouldnt Go To The County Just To Get A Bottle Story. Stop Being CHEAP . . . . *
ReplyDeleteI think "the bottle tax" is a horrible idea! If the city wants to save money then they need to not raise the prices but cut the prices down. Some people might go to the county to get their bottles of soda so the county would have all the money while the city has none at all! So i think this "bottle tax" thing needs to be canceled !
ReplyDeleteI don't really think we need a bottle tax on beverages big company's will possibly result in going out of buissness because of the lack of money they'll get from not getting customers. Yes it isn't much because it's two cents but it still might financial problems in families even though it is only two cents idk...
ReplyDeleteI think bottle tax isn't good. We are already suppose to be going thru a recession y would we waste money on bottles??????DUUHH THINK
ReplyDeletei think that this bottle tax is crazy just crazy
ReplyDeleteI think soda cans and bottled sodas should not have tax becuase some people sometimes do not have extra tax change to spend and if it is a dollar it should stay a dollar not a dollar fifty. Also if all sodas could be brought down to change then it could be be like 2 or 3 cents more thats it.
ReplyDeleteI think that this bottle tax is crazy!!! The city has lost enough money. Now were going to lose more money. Overtime the money will accumalate. What dey doin wat da money they not cleaning the bay. The money is going in the politicians pocket. Not ours what are they crazy. Stephanie Rawlings-Blake need to get over herself
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeletesome major soda companies might lose a lot of money just because people have to pay taxes
ReplyDeleteCan't they see the politicians usin our tax to eat...Duh isnt it obvious..ppl now-a-days
